Our Aim
This project was born within the Musithema research group (Andalusian Research Plan, ref. HUM067). We were concerned about the high dropout rate from music studies as a characteristic phenomenon of the Western educational system. On the other hand, the role of motivation and attitude is decisive in this abandonment. Beyond the fact of leaving music studies, an educational system or a teacher who does not take care of the attitudes and motivations of their students would fail to fulfill one of its objectives, as Dewey explained in the last century. Furthermore, the scientific literature regarding attitudes and motivations related to music is sometimes contradictory and partial. This project aims to contribute to solving the deficiencies detected with the aim of reaching an explanatory holistic understanding of how attitudes and motivations towards music operate in different educational contexts.
